Berkshire Botanical Garden’s ART/GARDEN Theme

Stockbridge, Mass . Berkshire Botanical Garden’s 48th annual Grow Show, a judged event showcasing floral design and Berkshire backyard gardener’s summer harvest, is scheduled for August 11-12 at the Garden’s Education Center located at 5 West Stockbridge Road, Stockbridge. The event shares the Garden’s season-long ART/GARDEN theme, where the floral design division takes inspiration from notable works of art found at regional museums including The Clark, Norman Rockwell, Frelinghuysen Morris House and Studio, Berkshire Botanical Garden, and the Berkshire Museum.
Floral designers will be judged on their arrangements inspired by the following: Fumee d’ambre gris, by John Singer Sargent, courtesy of The Clark Museum; Repairing Stained Glass, courtesy of the Norman Rockwell Museum; Fresco by George L.K. Morris, courtesy of the Frelinghuysen  Morris House and Studio, and The Trio by Robert Reid, courtesy of the Berkshire Museum. Two works of art currently on exhibition at Berkshire Botanical Garden are also included: Pear I by Ellsworth Kelly, courtesy of the Ellsworth Kelly Foundation, and Cyclone by Alice Aycock, courtesy of the artist. Judging is based on the principles and elements of design as well as creativity, distinction, conformance to and interpretation of the class.
The Grow Show’s horticulture division spotlights regional backyard gardeners when their summer harvest is at its peak. This fun, community event brings together gardeners from throughout the Berkshires and beyond.  Nearly 80 horticulture classes are open for registration, representing divisions including annuals, perennials, biennials, vegetables, fruits and berries, container grown plants and dish gardens, among others. There is no charge to enter the Grow Show. Entries may be brought to the Garden on Friday, August 10, 3-5:00 p.m. and Saturday, August 11 from 8-9:45 a.m. Online pre-registration saves time on entry day. Those who pre-register using the online form at are automatically entered into a drawing to win a BBG giveaway.
